I'm 17 and am endlessly annoyed with the amount of kids that get their licenses and drive recklessly. I'm no angel but I like to believe its okay in my case because of the amount of time I put into practicing defensive driving techniques and heel toeing. I pretty much live in the middle of nowhere so I really only beat on it when there's nobody around. That makes me feel better because the only thing I'm putting in danger is myself and potentially an unlucky deer (hopefully not). But there's so many kids that don't think of the consequences of what they do. They speed around in their autotragic jettas oblivious to the fact that something could be in their path at any second and have not had any forethought into what they would do.

I'm sick and tired of Damn I'm Good nike shirts and V6 mustang drivers that hashtag #americanmuscle and double park so no one hits their car. This is something I actually saw today. Stupid fucks.

Edit: Here's a picture to balance out the rant

This is what you do about double parkers. Get a cheapo beater. Park right up next to them. Get some paper. Write "Deal with it," and stick it on their windshield.

Sit back, and say to yourself, "damn I'm good."

I feel like because of how outwardly expressive I am of the fact that I like cars, I've influenced a whole school full of people that want to do "cool car-related things" like drive faster than they're supposed to or put shitty ass wheels on their car but they aren't even into cars. From a kill joy point of view, driving fast isn't condoned in any way, but I'd like to think people who are legitimate enthusiasts of cars in general or racing, combined with a level-head, are probably better off doing those things because they are actually interested in the progression and furthering of their skills not just AWH HELL YEAH PRESSIN' DOWN ON THAT GO PEDAL.

I'm 17 and you pretty much ranted what I wanted to rant about today (minus the heel-and-toe bit). It snowed today and all the morons in their fish face camaros, 3-series, and camrys were trying to do drifting in the school parking lot 5 minutes after classes ended. I nearly got taken out twice by a morons in a span of 50 feet. I usually wait 15 minutes after school waiting for the largest idiots to file out but recently I have just wanted to get home to take a nap before my swim team practice. I am absolutely terrified of drivers my age, scared of them enough that I always insist on driving.

Something has to be done, and I don't mean any of that stupid marketing shit that suggests you don't text and drive that my school and the tv keeps forcing down peoples necks. I mean something along the lines of tiered licenses based on skill (not age) and a required drivers ed of better quality than what we currently have.

Edit: I forgot! On the way home some teenage girl ditched her car (can I use the verb Orlove?). There was less than an inch of snow and no real ice. She was just being a complete moron behind the wheel (I know the girl... popular-whore-bitch). Naturally her moron friends come to help and they park their cars in the road on a blind sharp up-hill esse curve. Common sense people, please!

First snow day I saw a Camaro slide in the snow in an attempt to floor it in the snow, because you know, way not, floor it.

And my dormmate, he sucks at driving. Like thanks for taking me on grocery shopping trips since I don't have a car, but CRVs were not made for 5500-6000RPM.

I agree. Our drivers ed program is definitely flawed. Maybe if what to do in the event of something you may know how to handle was stressed more than the prices and points that go along with certain fines, we'd have people that were actually competent on the road. I forget where I saw it but there was a video from some video mag or something of a guy trying to get his license in another country (which I also do not remember), but they had to prove they could control a slide in the event that one were to happen. Too many people think that because they could drive around in a circle and park that they're really good at driving, but when winter comes or some other slippery condition, they don't understand what is happening or what to do and fear sets in, which usually causes people to over react and this is extremely dangerous.

I'm 18 and your situation is the same as mine. There's kids who drive on their G1 (learner's permit, can only drive with someone with more than 4 year driving experience in the car) and speed everywhere, but magically don't get caught. This one time, a dude took his mom's outlander too fast around the school entrance corner and hopped a curb and drove across the front lawn. If I even scratched a vehicle owned by my parents I'd lose my driving privileges and be grounded quite a while.

I was actually just saying that to someone else on this post. If maybe our drivers ed system focused more on what to do in the case of something they didn't yet know how to deal with, instead of all the fines and points associated with various offenses. Like its as if they're saying just don't do anything bad but its okay if you fuck up because that happens to everyone . I have seen countless numbers of people who either under-reacted because they didn't understand what was happening or over reacted because they were afraid, which in my opinion, is the most dangerous thing.

Double parking in my highschool would end up pissing the cowboys off and your car would more than likely end up on its roof during class. Nowadays there're security officers at school so you probably couldn't get away with it and you'd probably be sued and accused of 'bullying' if you did manage to flip it.

Vaughn Gitten actually knows what he's doing, so that's a bit of an insult to Vaughn.

But when it comes to a car like that, 90% of it speed comes from the driver. A v6 mustang in capable hands is better than a V8 mustang in idiot's hands, in my experience. That's what makes me all the more enraged that they don't treat their car properly.

Also, I'd like to add, you can totally drift without an LSD, since a Mustang has a solid axle, the same basic suspension setup used on the Keiichi Tsuchiy's AE86 back in the mid-80s when he lost his racing license due to his drifting shenanigans.

But on the snow? That's not drifting. That's sliding around. There's a lot of misconception about what a 'drift' is, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter.

When I was 17, people just waited until Friday or Saturday night, and then you could put your car where your mouth was, if you thought you were something special.

I'm also 17, and our high school is a bit different: anyone who thinks they're cool drives a diesel truck. It's mostly the little group of hick kids, but there's definitely a lot more than just them. And anyone who doesn't have a diesel wants a pickup of some sort. Funniest of all, of the 20 or so pick ups at my high school, (roughly 50% of which are diesels) only two of the kids actually need it due to work. I'm getting real tired of their "roll coal" shit, especially when they do they're daily ritual of lining up on the speed bump and flooring it through the crowded parking lot, leaning out the window looking for the black smoke (*note: of all the trucks at my school, one actually does roll coal. The rest just yell it out the window with fresh air trailing behind them).
Also, I live in Connecticut. It's ridiculous. /end brotruck rant

New Jersey here. We got quite a few of those here as well. There's this kid with an old lifted ranger thing. I kid you not its doing pretty much a wheelie because the front is so much higher than the back and then when the wheels turn I kid you not, there's probably about 25 degrees of camber in the direction its turning. It looks like it wants to fall over. While the wheels are straight there's roughly 5 degrees positive camber and the passenger side front wheel is toed in like 8 degrees haha he claims there's nothing unsafe about that truck.

Unfortunately it doesn't really reward you very much for getting lessons and not simply learning from someone who learned 30+ years ago with different regulations and may or may not be interested in cars. There are some people I refuse to get a ride from because I don't trust their ability. I have a friend who says "I'm the best driver in our school because I can parallel park a manual"
